Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM, http://www.upm.es) is the oldest and largest Spanish technical university, with more than 4.000 faculty members, around 38.000 undergraduate students and 6.000 postgraduates in 21 Schools of study. UPM, as a top quality academic establishment, has a strong commitment to R&D and Innovation. It boasts over 200 Research Units and several Research Institutes and Technological Centres and contributes significantly to the international scientific community with a high number of journal papers, conference communications, and PhD theses. The UPM researchers have a large expertise in participation in research projects at national and international level. The presence of UPM in the international R&D arena is ensured by its consistent participation in various EU schemes. As UPM participation in the 6th Framework Programme is concerned, the University has taken part in 149 European R&D projects with more than 25 M€ of funding received from the European Commission. After the first two years of duration of the 7th Framework Programme the UPM was recognized as the Spanish University with the highest number of projects approved. The Computer Networks and Web Technologies Laboratory (CoNWeT Lab, http://conwet.fi.upm.es/en) is part of the CETTICO research group and is based at the UPM's School of Computer Science (http://www.fi.upm.es). CoNWeT carries out research on Computer Networks, Distributed Systems, Service Oriented Computing, Cloud Computing, and Web Technologies. The CETTICO group has been has been ranked in the 13rd position out of the 169 research groups formally recognized by UPM. Its members have been involved in and/or have coordinated/leaded more than 25 national and european funded research projects in the last 10 years,, such as FAST FP7 project, 4CaaSt FP7 project, FI-WARE FP7 project, MyMobileWeb Eureka-CELTIC Flagship Project and EzWeb NESSI Strategic Project, and its members have co-authored more than 75 journal publications and conference articles in the same period, and have supervised 8 PhDs in the last 5 year. Recent research efforts in the lab are fully aligned with the EC vision of the Internet of Future and with NESSI‘s SRA (CoNWeT Lab represents UPM in the Steering Committee of NESSI). The Laboratory is based at The technology Montegancedo Campus, which obtained the name of Campus of International Excellence by the Ministry of Education in the 2010 call. The proposal of I2_Tech Montegancedo aims at reinforcing international specialization focused on innovation in IT. The intent of the UPM is that Montegancedo becomes a living laboratory to increase the valuation of research results. This effort will make that the user can be a key piece of innovation in a close collaboration with industry.
