Internet of Everything
Working together to harness and manage the evolution of the IoE with a pragmatic approach
The IoE market is expected to grow to $23.97 trillion by 2020 (that is only 2 years from now!), with 200 billion devices and sensors in use around the globe. TM Forum is focused on helping our members enable, manage and monetize those opportunities.

About the IoE program
TM Forum’s Internet of Everything (IoE) program, formerly the Open Digital program, is a global initiative focused on the key challenges for all players in the IoE space. Monetization, management and trust are the core areas of interest that resonate with our members, and they form the basis of our initiatives in the program.
Whether you are interested in monetization and managing the complex business scenarios and business models for operational execution from a telco perspective, or whether you are working in the Internet of Everything space from a disruptive innovator’s perspective, TM Forum is ideally placed to develop pragmatic solutions to help change the way you manage technologies and business models.
In order to create scalable, secure, successful ecosystems of connected things, a standardized approach and common language is increasingly valuable as the pace of change accelerates.
From sensors to M2M, data management to trust, API’s and applications, the management of the Internet of Everything requires a common way of addressing these complex and dynamic solutions.
Craig Bachmann, TM Forum, gives an overview of the IoE Program
A key element to keep at the forefront when considering the Internet of Everything is digital trust among IoE ecosystem participants. This is not only to accelerate growth but also to manage risk from increasing threats and regulations while balancing security, privacy and transparency. New technologies like NFV and 5G are scaling up quickly, so everything that contributes to trust needs to keep pace with that rate of change to realize scalable, sustainable ecosystems.
The IoE Roadmap of Challenges
Our recent eBook explains the central tenet of the IoE program, and articulates how the IoE opportunity includes a “Roadmap of Challenges” that is faced by every organization trying to monetize the open digital ecosystem. This Roadmap of Challenges is a set of connected business, technology, market, and customer requirements that characterize the new path to monetizing digital services across ecosystems.
These challenges call for a new set of management skills and automation capabilities. Through collaboration, thought leadership, scalable management best practices and practical tools, the IoE program is your partner for successfully navigating the roadmap of challenges.

The IoE Roadmap of Options
For our latest Insights Research report on managing IoE services end to end, we surveyed 40 communications service providers to find out how they are approaching IoE and what the biggest challenges are. Two of the most important issues to address are improving network security and changing the culture and mindset of their organizations both internally and externally to embrace IoE.
Our work to date:
The work of the IoE Program on ecosystem partnering has culminated in the release of Curate Fx, an automated tool to provide how-to guidance to both business and technical audiences who need to rapidly design, implement, operate and monetize digital services with partners in extended value chains.
The best practices and guidance documents for ecosystem partnering are also available in a toolkit for download:
Focus for the future:
The collaborative project workstreams in the IoE program are creating best practices and standards to enable platform capabilities and business scenarios to be assembled from different entities (metrics, business process, functions etc) to accelerate the deployment of digital services using TM Forum assets.
Now for 2017 our focus is on IoE monetization, ecosystems management and IoE Trust, as well as continuing building a “2020 vision” based on the Roadmap of Challenges and testing business use cases for new approaches such as Blockchain/Ethereum, and Smart Contracts that are relevant to our members.
