Greek Mobile Operators Association
The Greek Mobile Operators Association (EEKT) is a non-profit organization, founded in 2008 and its mission is the representation of its members at the Greek State. In 2013 the Mobile Telecommunications Sector completes 20 years of business growth in Greece, a growth that was quite remarkable in the first 15 years the sector was active, an important contribution to the public income and the GDP, as well as investments of 7 billion € in networks and infrastructure, rendering thus this sector is one of the largest investors in Greece. It is worth noting that for the period 2000-2010, the telecommunications sector, with that of mobile telecommunications being its most dynamic part contributed a 9.2% to the growth of the country, becoming thus the 7th most important sector of the economy of Greece. The immediate contribution of the 3 mobile telephony operators to the State income, for the year 2012 amounted to 1,5 billion € paid for taxes and social insurance contributions and in addition 380 million € for licences regarding the use of the radio frequencies spectrum. Together with the rest of the value chain (suppliers and traders), the total of the income for the State generated by this sector in 2012 amounted to 3 billion €.
