Transformation Towards the Operations Center of the Future R17.0.1 (IG1144)

In digital economy, Communication Service Providers(CSP) are experiencing unprecedented business and technology challenges and they need to rapidly evolve their current operations practices to achieve two main goals:

  1. agility in introducing new services and service types to compete with Over the Top (OTT) providers, and to enable business partnership opportunities in industry verticals such as Smart City, e-Health, 5G services, etc.
  2. automation in the acquisition and operation of software based technologies such as Virtualization – for example Cloud, edge computing, NFV, SDN and 5G technologies – and their integration with legacy resources.

The Operations Center of the Future sets out the vision and characteristics for future operations, and the required main transformation journeys from current operations practices. These cover processes, people, culture, system, technology and business transformation metrics, and they enable service providers to reach that vision at first for hybrid ecosystems, then for fully virtualized ecosystems.

For each of these transformation journeys, TM Forum has sets of assets developed from members’ experiences of the best practices and standards to apply to those journeys. These assets are summarized and positioned against the main transformation journeys, and are the starting point for CSPs planning such journeys and for measuring their progress. These assets include results from all relevant TM Forum programs including ZOOM Agile Business and IT Program, Open APIs, Customer Centricity and others.
